Education for All attend Skills for Work, Growth and Poverty Reduction: Challenges and Opportunities

This Seminar was jointly organised by the UK National Commission for UNESCO and the British Council with the support of the Institute of Education (IOE) and the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE).

In recent years there has been an increasing focus by the World Bank, UNESCO and many bilateral aid agencies on skills development for poverty reduction, economic growth and competitiveness in developing countries. This is due to the success of the concerted efforts of both national governments and international donors to bring millions of primary school age children into primary schools (EFA and MDG goals). However because there has not been a commensurate expansion of secondary education and training, a school leaver problem has arisen for millions of primary school children who have no transition to post-primary education or training.
